Cloud Whisky one of the best farmers in the game. He just recently upgraded his TH to level 10 and posted about his latest TH9 layout. Below it is a short, concise explanation of his farming strategy. It was I'm using to finish my level 9 walls.
Cloud Whisky's Farming Base
I'll add my strategy too:
The reason this strategy works is because its so quick, cheap, and forgiving. If you're searching for 250k gold and not finding it, just attack and get a quick 100k, gain or lose trophies depending on which direction you want to go. I usually had the most luck between 1350-1500, but sometimes went as high as 1650. By the time you get back to home base, you're ready to attack again.
Army Composition
-Set two barracks to make archers non-stop
-Set two barracks to make barbarians non-stop
-Set one dark barracks to make minions non-stop
(This still leaves me with excess minions, but I like to donate them so it works out)
This army comp is really forgiving, so don't over think it.
-All lightening spells
Layouts to attack
-inactive, full collector bases (duh)
-semi-exposed full storages
-stay away from maxed defenses and high level walls
Deployment
B
Whether you're grabbing from collectors or breaking in to grab from storages, you're still using your barbs as mini-meatshields. When deployed spread out in large numbers they give defenses a lot of targetsto try to take down. They'll last longer than you expect them to. When spammed, they can break into a wall pretty quickly. Just make sure they won't be pummeled by a mortar or wizard tower while working on that wall.
A
Archers do a little less damage but won't be targeted if they're deployed behind the barbarians. Two or three can finish off a collector behind 4 or 5 barbs, even under attack. They can also clear out defenses and collectors behind the exterior walls of bases. This is essential for exposing storages and giving the minions a straight-shot to them
M
Most of the time, I use very few minions, if any at all. If you have an excess of them in your army camps, by all means, throw them into the mix of your barbs and archers(especially if DE is up for grabs. I'll normally only use them to take out stubborn CC troops, AQ, and BK. BUT, they really come in handy when you've found that semi-exposed storage base with a ton of loot. Use lightening to take out a pesky WT and maybe an adjacent mortor. Use barbs and archers to clear out defenses until that storage is exposed. Then spam minions giving them a straight shot to those storages.
Let me know if you have any questions or want to chat about this stuff!
