So I'll preface this guide with the fact that I'm still very new to this strategy, but I've also learned a ton over the past week of pushing. Feel free to add or correct anything in this guide.
First and foremost, when you're getting used to this strategy, don't attack unless your very confident you can get the 50%. I've even resorted to counting buildings before I attack. The bases appropriate for this strategy exist throughout the trophy ranges so just be patient.
Army Composition (TH9):
20 Balloons
60 Minions
CC: 6 Balloons
Spells: 3 Rage, 1 Lightning
Barbarian King
Archer Queen
I was running out of minions for cleanup when I was putting them in my clan castle and using more balloons in my camp(24-26 loons, 24-50 mins, CC: 15 mins). You use balloons in a series which makes them perfect for your cc. Minions sometimes need to be deployed one at a time, so it never did me any good to have them in my CC. BTW, I'm super grateful to those of you that have shoveled balloons into my CC over and over.
Bases to attack:
There's no reason to attack anything that's worth less then 30 trophies while in crystal and master league. By attacking less you further your chances of having a big loss. In master league, there are very few bases you can 2-star so you have to rely only on the cups you get from a 50% win.
Look for about 25 exposed, non-defensive buildings you easily be able to take out after taking care of the minimal defenses covering them.
Look for very centralized inferno towers. Try to steer clear of these.
Xbows facing down for extremely centralized. Their range is a little shorter when their up but they can still be a huge pain if you get into their territory.
Look for exposed archer towers, air defense, and wizard towers, especially if they're not covered by another defense tower. Also, see if any of these towers are so centralized that they won't have to be dealt with to get the 50%.
Wizard towers have a fairly short range so if they're centralized they probably wont matter. Archer towers have the longest range which means they will most frequently be the most important defense to attack. Air defense have slightly less range than the archer towers and highest hit points of the three. You'll have to use more loons and possibly rage to take these out.
Here are a couple good ones I recently found:
Attacking:
Lure queen and CC. Sometimes its easier to take out the first cluster of defenses and buildings first before you deal with them. If you can do both with the same set of loons/mins, even better!
If there is a more difficult cluster of defenses that need to be taken out, use your CC of 6 loons. You rarely use more than 6 at a time without aiming them at different defenses.
Strategically take out defenses by sending the appropriate number of balloons to each defense, followed by minions to eliminate the other buildings. Try to only use one minion per building. Archer towers below level 12 take 1-3 balloons depending on how exposed they are and how well covered by other defenses they are. Wizard towers are about the same. Air defenses take 2-5.
Know when you're gonna need spells and use them when appropriate, but remember, they're the main thing you're gonna have to wait on between attacks, so be conservative. If an unexpected tesla pops up in a bad place, drop a rage and another loon to make sure it doesn't ruin your day. It's always nice to have heroes and a cluster of minions as back up just in case.
Hope this helps. I did it in a hurry so I might be back to edit/add/delete. Please let me know if you have questions or if I've missed/messed something.
Cheers!
